Member Centre Access FAQs
Q: Why can't I get into the Member Centre?
Only IABC members can register for Member Centre access. If you are already an IABC member and have not yet done so, please register for your Member Centre password.
If you are a member and already have a password for the Member Centre, but you are still having problems signing in, try the following solutions to common problems:
- Make sure your member ID# and password are entered correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive, so check that your caps-lock is off, and try again. If the password field was pre-filled, try erasing the contents of the field and typing in your password again.
- If you’ve forgotten your member ID# or password, you can retrieve them using the IABC Login Finder.
- Make sure your browser has JavaScript enabled and is set to accept cookies.
- If you still can’t log in after trying these solutions, please email our customer service centre at
.
Q: What is my password?
If you have never visited the IABC Member Centre, you must first register and choose a password. The password registration form is case-sensitive, and your information must appear exactly as it does on your member record.
If you already went through the password registration process and have forgotten your password, you can retrieve it using the IABC Login Finder.
Q: Why do I keep getting the "Your registration failed" error?
If you enter the wrong information in the password registration form, or you are not an active member, you will see this message:
Your registration failed.
You must enter your information exactly as it appears on your IABC record.
The ID you entered is 888888.
Please go back and try again.
If you need assistance, please e-mail IABC's Service Centre or call 415-544-4700.
Common reasons for registrations to fail include:
- You did not enter your information exactly as it appears in your IABC member record
- You are not an active member
- You did not capitalize your input properly
- You are putting your middle initial in the First Name field
- You reside in Canada and you formatted your postal code incorrectly—be sure to capitalize letters and include a space after the first three characters
- You entered extra spaces, typically at the ends of fields
If you have checked for all of the above common errors and your registration still fails, please contact or call +1 415.544.4700.
Q: Will I be able to access the IABC Member Centre through my
corporate firewall?
Yes. Previously this was not always the case, as the
original IABC Member Centre was located on port 81, a nonstandard port. As of June 2002, the Member Centre no longer used port 81. All members-only areas have been moved to the default, worldwide-standard HTTP port 80. The only other port the IABC website uses is the industry standard HTTPS/SSL port 443—for secure e-commerce, logins, etc.—which the vast majority of the world’s firewalls leave open by default.
If you have any trouble at all accessing the Member Centre
from behind a corporate firewall, please notify the with as much detail of your environment as possible.
Please note: Any old bookmarks of, or references to, iabc.com URLs that contain “:81” are no longer valid. The new Member Centre is located here: http://www.iabc.com/members/.

to . Please include your first and last name and your IABC member ID# (if known).

Additional information about cookies:
The IABC session cookie carries only your member number and an ecrypted password to the pages in the Member Centre. This allows you to enter the Member Centre and to access and update your member record. If you do not accept the IABC cookie, you will not be able to enter the Member Centre and view members-only content such as Communication World articles.
The IABC web site only uses session cookies, which do not collect information from your computer and are erased after you end your Internet session. This prevents other people who use your computer, or have access to it, from finding out your member number by looking at your cookie.txt file or cookie cache.
Cookies cannot contain viruses and are only visible to the site that created them. Most Internet sites use cookies as a mechanism to identify visitors.
