Gold Quill Awards
OPPORTUNITY FOR 2012-13 VICE CHAIR OF GOLD QUILL
Please consider helping guide IABC's Gold Quill program to a new level
of excellence.
As a past IABC volunteer, leader and/or participant in the Gold Quill
program, you are invited to apply for the role of Vice Chair on the
Gold Quill committee for the 2012-13 term. The responsibilities of the
role are outlined in the linked job description, which automatically
leads to the Chair role in 2013-14 and then into the Past Chair role
in 2014-15. These three roles
comprise the Gold Quill committee.
As you know, an IABC Gold Quill Award is the highest honor a
communications professional can achieve. Based upon IABC's 7-point
scale of excellence for communication planning and execution, the
competition regularly draws hundreds of entries from around the globe
and provides an incomparable professional development experience for
entrants and judges alike. Furthermore, winners are recognized at the
annual Gold Quill Gala, the profession's must-attend event of the year.
Moving ahead, the Gold Quill committee is committed to building upon
the past successes of this flagship program. Current projects include
tactical initiatives such as reviewing scoresheets and strategic
initiatives such as examining the alignment of the Gold Quill with
local and regional competitions. One of the largest projects currently
underway is a program to improve the professional development
opportunity for judges and entrants through a training and
certification program that is designed to help ensure that judges'
fair and thorough assessments also live up to the Gold Quill standard.
Unquestionably, the Gold Quill program is in the midst of a very
exciting time, and I welcome your application for the important role
of Vice Chair.
The deadline for applications is 18 May 2012. The current Past
Chair, Melissa Dark (pd@iabc.com), is your primary contact for this
year's Vice Chair search. Please contact her with any questions.
The application can be found here.

Because the requirements to enter the Gold Quill Awards can be complex, we’re offering a Gold Quill Awards mentorship program. We will pair past winners and judges, as well as Accredited Business Communicators (ABCs), to mentor any communicator who has not previously won a Gold Quill Award.
Your mentor can walk you through the steps on preparing your Gold Quill Award entry, review your work plan and work sample and provide general feedback as you prepare for the final submission of your Gold Quill Award entry.
All mentors are investing his or her time in your success. In return, we ask that once you commit to using a mentor, you make every effort to complete and submit your entry/entries. Establish a schedule for check-ins. Set up your first meeting as soon as you decide to commit yourself to entering. To request a mentor, please send your request to recognition@iabc.com. Please indicate which category you plan on submitting to when you send your request. The mentorship program runs from 7 November 2011 to 27 January 2012.

Testimonials from 2011 Winners
“For Argyle Communications, entering and winning Gold Quill Awards reflects both our work and our values. It shows not only that we do excellent work, but also that we believe in raising standards, sharing knowledge, operating with ethics and demonstrating the results of our work to our clients and our peers. It was particularly exciting to win the Jake Wittmer Award for research-based communications in both 2009 and 2011 – two highlights in our firm’s long history.”

"Being recognized with a Gold Quill Award of Excellence from the IABC was both a thrill and an honour, and I was pleased to accept the award on behalf of my team at MTS Allstream. When we launched Idea Factory – an internal social media site where employees can share ideas about how to make the company better and volunteer to be part of the solution – we knew we had a winning idea; but to be acknowledged among the best of the best by peers in your industry is truly a remarkable experience."
