Gold Quill Awards: How to Enter
There are two important steps to entering the IABC Gold Quill Awards®:
Deadlines and Fees
Note: The following are receive-by deadlines, NOT postmark deadlines.
Entry form / payment must be received by IABC Headquarters AND your entry must be received by the appropriate coordinator by:
- Early bird: 27 January 2009
US$170 IABC member
US$270 Non-member
US$465 Join IABC and enter
- Final: 3 February 2009
US$270 IABC member
US$370 Non-member
US$565 Join IABC and enter
No refunds will be given if the work plan and samples are not submitted on time. If you pay the early-bird rate and your entry is received after the early-bird deadline, you will be charged US$100 (the difference between the early-bird and regular fees).
Submitting your entry form and payment
Online credit card payments are now being accepted. If you prefer to enter and pay via fax or mail, download the entry form . (Students should download the student Call For Entry.)

Submitting your entry
Do not send your entry to IABC headquarters. It will be disqualified, and no refund will be given.
Instead you should send your entry to the appropriate category or regional/language coordinator.
Final Checklist
Before you mail your entry, check off each item below:
- Submit the correct entry fee amount and have sent it in time to be received in hand (not postmarked) by IABC headquarters by either 27 January 2009 (early-bird deadline) or 3 February 2009 (final deadline). Only pay the early-bird rate if you can get your work sample and work plan to the correct coordinator by 27 January 2009.
- Include a copy of your entry form (or e-mail confirmation from IABC if you paid online) with your entry.
- Include the written permission letter or e-mail from clients and other key project participants in your binder.
- Submit both an electronic copy on a disk or CD-ROM and a hard copy of your work plan. If you do not, your entry may be disqualified. Consider a pouch for your disk, as contents do shift in the mail. Make sure to label your disk or CD-ROM with the entrant’s name, entry title and entrant’s organization.
- Do not exceed the size limits. Your work plan must not exceed four pages for Division 1, three pages for Division 2 and two pages for Division 3. The whole entry, including your work plan and samples, must not exceed the one-inch-ring-diameter maximum binder size, the 8.5 by 11-inch paper size (A4 size outside the Americas) and minimum font size of 10-point. See the rules for preparing your work sample for details and specifications. Remember, the only exception to the size limit is when a single piece of your work sample is critical to your entry
- Check ahead of time to see where your entry should be mailed, and whether it must cross international borders. For example, entries in North America may need to go from the U.S. to Canada or vice versa. Plan ahead and allow enough time for delivery. Overnight delivery service may not be available for all locations.
- Mail your work plan, work sample and entry form or e-mail confirmation to the correct category coordinator or regional/language coordinator (not IABC headquarters) by either 27 January 2009 (early-bird deadline) or 3 February 2009 (final deadline). One copy of your binder is all that is required. Your entry, work plan and samples must be received in hand (not postmarked) by either of these dates. Work plans and work samples that are faxed or e-mailed will not be accepted.
