Playing to the same beat: Inspiring collaboration and creativity
Drumming has been a powerful communication tool for centuries. In parts of Africa, communities gather in the village center to play music before vital decisions are made. The music creates a sense of belonging and unity, fostering more effective decision-making. Experience this power firsthand in an invigorating opening session with the internationally renowned Drum Cafe. This team of musicians will use drumming to demonstrate creative ways to build community, encourage diversity in thought, and transcend traditional barriers such as hierarchy, gender, culture and geography to ensure open communication. You will learn how to listen, play to the same beat, explore techniques to recover and grow as a team, and recognize your unique voice and contributions. This session is about demonstrating passion and energy, and taking growth to a new level as you celebrate your energy, colleagues and accomplishments.
Drum Cafe has inspired audiences at more than 16,000 special events in 28 countries, and performed for such world leaders as Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, the Queen of England, Tony Blair and George W. Bush. It's IABC's great pleasure to bring them to you in this extraordinary opening session.
The IABC Fellow and Chairman’s Awards, two of the most prestigious awards the association can bestow on a member, will also be presented.

Tuesday Research Foundation Luncheon & Seminar
Building corporate credibility on the environment: A new direction for achieving an age-old goal
There have been days—bad days—in the PR industry when we have told our clients what they wanted to hear, and told the public what we hoped they would believe. Because of those efforts, polls show that we and the industries we represent have lost the public trust and endangered our profession. There is a better way. Focusing on the PR role in communicating about climate change, James Hoggan will review the worst and point to the best: a new direction in environmental public relations.
Presenter / James Hoggan is president of the Vancouver-based public relations firm Hoggan & Associates, chair of the David Suzuki Foundation, chair of the Canadian chapter of Al Gore’s organization, The Climate Project, and a trustee of the Dalai Lama Centre for Peace and Education. He is co-founder of the public relations web sites DeSmogBlog.com and Stonehousesummit.com, and author of two books: Do the Right Thing: PR Tips for a Skeptical Public and Climate Cover-up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming.
Use the registration form to order your ticket for this event for US$150/CAD$165, or purchase a Conference, Lunch & Gold Quill or Conference & Lunch package. Part of this fee is donated to furthering the work of the IABC Research Foundation.
