Conference Session: Fellows Session 3
Fellows Session 3 / Is communication education changing to meet the needs of current and future practitioners?
Date: Tuesday, 24 June
Time: 7:15–8:15 a.m.
Track: Public Relations
While many of us can master the intricacies of any social media format, set world records in online games and instantly translate complex conversations into instant messaging code, these attributes aren’t necessarily the qualifications professionals need for developing and implementing communication programs. Is higher education preparing communicators for the future?
This session, based on input from faculty and advisers at several global universities and colleges, will look at:
- Higher education’s response to the need for new communication methodologies and training
- The distance convergence can go in technology, training and implementation
- Strategies for staying on top of the ever-changing landscape of social, traditional and new media
Presenter / Wilma Mathews, ABC, IABC Fellow / Arizona, USA, has more than three decades of experience in business communication. Mathews is a faculty associate in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University, teaching senior-level public relations courses in writing and campaigns.
