Conference Session: S4
S4 / Putting lying on the table: A guide to ethical communication practices
Date: Sunday, 22 June
Time: 1–3:45 p.m.
Ethics and communication have been seen as inseparable since Aristotle’s era, but the IABC Research Foundation’s recent study on ethics revealed that most communicators have no formal training in ethics. Using case studies and an experiential approach, this in-depth session will help bridge this gap.
In this session, participants will:
- Gain new insight into the role of ethics in decision making and organizational communication, specifically the differences between the roles of values manager and organizational conscience
- Work with peers to analyze and solve organizational ethical dilemmas
- Acquire processes and tools to help their clients (and themselves) work through future ethical issues
