Recruitment Checklist

Once A Month
  • Promote your events to the local media.
  • Check into the IABC CMC forum for good ideas (http://effectiveintranets.com).  You'll have to register first; contact IABC Membership Director Lee Anne Snedeker (lasnedeker@iabc.com) for details.
Once a Quarter
  • Set a recruitment goal for the coming quarter.
Annually
  • One month out of the year, run a promotion waiving the $40 initiation fee.  Be sure to let IABC headquarters know ahead of time!
Ongoing
  • Encourage members to bring guests to every event.
  • Regularly update your database of hot prospects (e.g., keep track of non-member attendees at chapter events or entries in chapter awards ٠ scan local media for names and titles of likely prospects ٠ ask chapter members for good prospects they know: pre-printed forms they can fill out are a good device ٠ check out local business directories).  Call, email, or mail to make contact, and be sure to follow up.
  • At every chapter event, make sure non-members hear how they can enroll in IABC right then and there.
  • Assemble testimonials from your members and use them in your promotional materials.
Consider These Ideas Too
  • Conduct special deals (e.g. member-get-a-member, using incentives such as gift certificates for a local restaurant or store).
  • Hold joint meetings with other organizations such as PRSA and NIRI, to expose new people to IABC.
  • Sponsor community events (e.g., literacy programs) to raise local awareness of IABC.
