student president
The president is the chief executive officer of the student chapter and is responsible for:
- Presiding over the activities of all officers and committees of the student chapter to ensure accomplishment of goals, objectives and strategies
- Representing the chapter on the local chapter board, before other student chapters and before IABC
- Presiding over all meetings of the chapter officers and members
- Monitoring the use of chapter monies and resources
- Promoting a strong, positive image of IABC among student chapter members
- Regularly informing the officers and chapter members of IABC activities and issues at all levels of the association
- Ensuring that governing documents are maintained and comply with student chapter guidelines
- Providing recognition to student chapter leaders and volunteers for their contributions
Faculty advisor
The role of the student chapter faculty advisor involves:
- Ensuring that the student chapter operations conform to campus needs and requirements
- Providing the key link between the association and the student chapter members
- Providing campus recognition to student chapter leaders
- Offering day-to-day guidance in helping officers run the student chapter
Professional Advisor
The professional advisor, or a contact from the sponsorsing professional IABC chapter, plays an important role in maintaining communication and cooperation between the two chapters. He or she:
- Represents the sponsoring chapter on the student chapter board
- Provides student chapter management guidance as needed to the student chapter president
- Works with the student chapter president to identify ways in which the two chapters can assist each other
- Ensures that the student chapter's governing documents comply with those of the sponsoring chapter
Secretary
The secretary of the student chapter serves as the official record-keeper and secretary of the association. That person:
- Records all actions of the board and business of the chapter
- Maintains all chapter papers and records
- Serves as the official election judge on all matters requiring membership vote
- Serves as secretary to the president as needed and issues all calls and notices
- Prepares all correspondence as required
VP of finance
The treasurer serves as the chief financial officer of the student chapter. In this capacity, the treasurer:
- Collects and distributes all funds with board approval
- Keeps accurate and complete records of all financial transactions
- Forwards monies to IABC headquarters according to chapter arrangement
- Maintains checking and/or savings accounts
- Provides financial reports of revenues and disbursements to the board

This officer is responsible for the recruitment and retention of members. In this capacity, the officer:
- Researches, plans, and implements programs that achieve the objectives
- Develops and maintains an annual budget for committee activities
- Keeps accurate and current records of members and their involvement in chapter activities
- Regularly reports to the board and the chapter the activities of membership development and retention
- Prepares, updates, and distributes the chapter membership directory
- Prepares and distributes the membership brochure or information kits to prospective members and their organizations
- Conducts ongoing recruitment efforts
- Develops programs to greet and acquaint new members
- Maintains an accurate and current mailing list
VP of pRofessional development/events
This officer is responsible for developing and maintaining committee(s) of members who plan, staff, and evalute meetings of members and special programs as required to meet members' professional needs. In this capacity, the officer:
- Prepares and maintains an annual budget on committe activities
- Monitors, surveys, and represents chapter interests in professional development to the board
- Develops new activities as required to accomplish the chapter objectives
- Ensures that members are informed of upcoming meetings
- Regularly reports on committee progress and activity to the board and chapter members
- Develops special activities as required to promote professional development and attendance of members
- Contributes ideas to other student chapters
- Organizes semester/quarter/year-end social event
VP of communication
This officer is responsible for developing and maintaining committees that regularly inform chapter members of all chapter business and activities, including transactions of the board, projects, finances, and the various levels of IABC. Included in this responsibility are:
- The chapter newsletter
- Communication with sponsoring and international newsletters and
- Communication with the sponsoring chapter president and board
- Monitoring and representing chapter interests on communication to the board
- Create promotional materials/messages to market chapter meetings and workshops
