Top five ways to... take advantage of your IABC membership over the school break

Wondering how IABC can help you while school is out of session? Here are five ways to maximize your membership benefits during the break.

  1. Find an internship and/or a mentor.
    Visit the IABC Job Centre to search for internships and post your résumé for potential employers to find.

    Request a mentor via the Student Mentoring Program and cultivate a relationship that could last a lifetime.
  2. Attend a local chapter event.
    Find your local professional chapter and visit their web site to view their event calendar. Choose at least one event to attend. You'll meet local leaders in the communication profession and build your network in a pressure-free environment.
  3. Stay in touch with other student chapter members using the IABC eXchange.
    Maintain your relationships with fellow student chapter members during the break. Student Services has created an IABC eXchange site just for your chapter. if you don't know the URL.) Discuss the upcoming school year, plan fun outings (picnics, ski trips, movie nights, etc.), share your vacation stories or update each other on your break activities.
  4. Have your questions answered by seasoned communication professionals on MemberSpeak.
    The pressure of the school year tends to consume all of your time, so use this break to shed light on your communication questions.

  5. Keep your school brain active by submitting to the Student Conference call for papers.
