Student Membership Fact Sheet

Students represent the future of the communication profession. IABC actively supports students' education and entry into the field as a means of enhancing the profession for all practitioners. IABC has more than 1,000 student members, mostly in the U.S. and Canada. Students may be members of student chapters or practitioner chapters. Currently, IABC has about 40 student chapters.

IABC student members are...
IABC defines student members as "full-time students of colleges, universities and other educational institutions . . . . This membership shall also be available to part-time students working toward a degree, who are not presently engaged in the organizational communication profession." Applications for student membership must be received at least 60 days prior to graduation date.

To apply for student membership, students must submit when joining or renewing:

  1. A student ID (fax or photocopy)

    AND
  2. One of the following: (a) Copy/Fax of a recent transcript with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year • (b) Copy/Fax of a class schedule provided by the Registrar with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year • (c) Copy/Fax of a receipt for tuition payment with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year
  3. Students must also provide the year of expected graduation. No student application will be processed before receipt of all three of these items.

IABC student dues...

Students can join IABC for US$44.00 (CAD$48.40 for Canadian students) per year, plus chapter and regional dues where applicable.

Upon graduation, IABC student members qualify for one-half off the international membership dues and exemption from the application fee if they join IABC as a practitioner member within one year of their graduation date. Chapter and regional dues still apply.
