Comms Needs an Operating System, Not a Calendar

In a recent piece for Forbes, Cody Luongo argued that communicators who double-major in creative direction will have a massive advantage in today's attention economy. His premise is spot on: The algorithm is now the primary audience, and if your announcement doesn't stand out visually in a feed, it might not land at all.

He's right that we need to be highly creative to stop the scroll. But from what I'm seeing on the front lines of corporate communications, visual creativity is only half the battle.

You can have the most visually engaging campaign in the world, but if the voice behind it is a faceless, legally scrubbed corporate brand, it will still disappear in the feed. The cold, hard truth of the modern algorithm is that people engage with people, not logos.

The Corporate Ghost Town

We all know the data: People-led content drives significantly higher engagement than brand posts. We consistently see human-led social posts outperform corporate channel posts by 80% or more. Today's audiences crave peer-to-peer insight, not B2B broadcasting.

But this creates a major bottleneck. The people with the most valuable insights — executives, subject matter experts and thought leaders — have limited time, are highly risk-averse and are often skeptical of the return on investment of posting consistently on social media.

The result is an engagement crisis. Companies retreat to the safety of the corporate brand voice, pumping out dry news releases and generic company updates that few people read.

To succeed in the attention economy, communications teams need to stop acting like copywriters and start acting like executive producers managing human talent.

This is the exact problem we built Engage to solve. Engage is a communications operating system designed to rethink how corporate knowledge is captured, protected, and shared.

Using the Engage framework, communications teams eliminate the friction of asking executives to write. Instead, they create environments where leaders can simply talk. By sitting executives down for unscripted, long-form conversations about their market, strategy and risks, teams can capture the authentic human insight the algorithm rewards.

Beyond Repurposing

The power of the Engage content generation engine isn't just in capturing content. It's in orchestrating that content into a complete communications campaign from a single, centralized system.

Through Engage, we use AI as a strategic scaling tool. The platform provides the framework to extract high-value insights from conversations, align them with corporate compliance and regulatory requirements, and distribute them in each leader's unique voice.

It addresses the C-suite's two biggest concerns: time commitment and regulatory risk. By placing compliance checks and strategic alignment at the center of the workflow, the system reduces the risk associated with authentic communication.

We're not using AI to replace the human voice. We're using it to build the infrastructure that allows the human voice to scale safely across the organization.

The New Communications Meta

Visuals will always be critical for capturing attention. But attention is fleeting if there isn't a human connection on the other side.

The communications leaders who will define the next decade won't just be the ones who can direct a beautiful design campaign. They'll be the ones who know how to capture the authentic voices of their leadership teams, orchestrate them safely using robust communications systems like Engage, and turn their executives into the organization's most powerful media channel.
