Role of committee
The communication committee is charged with creating an integrated communication strategy for IABC and for making recommendations on the strategy’s implementation and how resources will be deployed.
Katie Macaulay – Chair | Katie Macaulay is managing director of AB, one of the UK’s longest established communication agencies, founded in 1964. She became MD in 2012 after a career in communications spanning more than 20 years. Katie has worked with UK and international organisations in almost every industry sector, including Barclays, The London Stock Exchange, Novartis, Roche, Royal Mail, EDF and the British Red Cross. She is the author of ‘From Cascade to Conversation – Unlocking the Collective Wisdom of Your Workforce’, published in September 2014. Katie is a regular speaker on employee communications.
Maliha Aqeel, PMP – Vice Chair | Maliha Aqeel is an award-winning, senior communicator with experience in reputation management and financial communication for global clients. She is an expert at brand strategy and helping brands deliver on their promise. Her accomplishments include development of the new brand and value proposition for Institute of Corporate Directors, which won an IABC Gold Quill of Merit. She served on the Brand Taskforce responsible for IABC’s new brand and is an evaluator for the IABC Gold Quill, Silver Leaf and OVATION Awards programs. Outside of communication, she has subject expertise in corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, organizational restructuring and securities regulation.
Felicia Shiu, ABC, APR| Felicia is the Senior Communications Manager, Global Finance and Asia-Pacific Human Resources for HSBC. She is based in Hong Kong. Felicia has more than 20 years of experience in external and internal communications spanning numerous industries including fast moving consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, insurance, and banking on the corporate and agency side. Her most recent experience is working on transformations. She has won numerous awards including three IABC Gold Quills and a Gold Quill Best of the Best award. A long serving IABC volunteer, she has served as a director on the IABC Executive Board and serving as IABC/Toronto Chapter President.
Martha Nevanen | Martha Nevanen leads the marketing communications function for four privately-owned commercial real estate companies, and has more than 25 years of experience ranging from strategic planning, rebranding, change management and media relations. She previously served in strategic communications roles at a commercial insurance firm; a public-private organization contracted in seven U.S. states; and a manufacturing firm. An award-winning communicator, she served as Chair for the Pacific Plains Region of IABC from 2013-2014; on the PPR board from 2012-2015; and as president of the Minnesota chapter from 2005-2006. She earned her bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Missouri.
Leanne Joyce | Leanne Joyce is a Government Affairs and Communications consultant based in Canberra, Australia. She has over 20 years senior executive experience in the government, not for profit, and corporate sectors and has skills and qualifications in journalism, public policy and business administration. Leanne has been an IABC Member for six years. She has been involved with IABC Chapter Boards since 2010 – firstly with the NSW Chapter, then Canberra where she is now President. Leanne became Chair of IABC Asia Pacific in June this year and is keen to foster greater collaboration and professional development across a large and diverse region.
Marilee McInnis | Marilee McInnis is the Director of International Communication at Walmart. A 15-year communication professional, Marilee currently focuses on global reputation management, international media relations and communication for LATAM, Asia and EMEA regions, working with teams in 28 countries outside the United States. As part of her role, Marilee develops strategy and communication plans for Responsible Sourcing and the global supply chain, including response and mitigation of inherent issues, as well as a particular focus on international social responsibility. Prior to joining Walmart, Marilee led corporate strategy and sustainability programs at Southwest Airlines in Dallas, TX.
Stephanie Griffiths, ABC | Stephanie Griffiths is the principal of Cohesion, Communication Research and Development, her own professional practice which she founded some 25 years ago. Her team have been privileged to consult to major corporates and multinationals in both the public and private sectors. Stephanie has extensive experience in journalism, behavioural and communication research, human resource and organisational development and management. She has published a number of articles in professional journals and has presented papers extensively at various forums internationally and in South Africa. She has served as Executive Chairperson (2003/2004) of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), a professional body serving the interests of 15 000 members world-wide, as a trustee of the IABC Research Foundation(2003/2005) and as a past vice-chairman of the South African NQF Standards generating body for Public Relations and Communication Management. She has served on a curriculum advisory committee for the Communication Management discipline for a leading South African University and as the vice-chairperson of the IABC International Accreditation Council.
Lesley Crook | Lesley is a digital transformation consultant helping companies shift from email to enterprise social networking. Joined Enterprise Strategies LLC in 2015 to help deliver digital change at other companies. Prior to joining Enterprise Strategies, Lesley was an Internal Communication Manager at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and worked on many global intranet projects, specifically the successful adoption of Yammer. Prior to this worked in manufacturing communications with the target audience of production line. Experienced in intranet governance, cascades, reward and recognition and events. Lean Sigma Green Belt. Previously IABC-UK Board member. Enactus Business Advisor for Brighton University, UK.
Tasleem Kassum | Tasleem is Managing Director of Kassum Communications, a global boutique communications advisory, executive coaching and strategy firm, based in Washington D.C. She has over 18 years of diverse strategy experience working in consulting, agency and client side environments across various organizational areas of focus including corporate strategy, global marketing and communications, human resources and corporate and internal communications. Tasleem holds a double honors bachelor’s degree in Urban and Economic Geography and Environment and Resource Management from the University of Toronto and masters degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University.
Sherry Kennedy | Sherry is an integrated communications specialist with a focus on communications within the international development sector. In her current position with the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI), she is responsible for the company’s communications and marketing activities based in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to her primary role, she also supports business development initiatives and manages the company’s brand and relationship management strategies. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Sociology from Queen’s University (Canada), A Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wilfred Laurier University (Canada) and a Master’s Degree in Public Communications from American University (U.S.A.).
