On 28 November, participants around the world will come together to celebrate generosity and to give through a global effort known as Giving Tuesday. This year, the IABC Foundation is launching its first annual Giving Tuesday campaign.
- Gift of Communication—Providing the tools and funding for chapters to give back to their local communities.
- Gift of Experience—Investing in experience-gaining activities for the next generation and those in transition through various channels, which may include scholarships, internships, mentoring and more.
- Gift of Excellence—Supporting certification of professional communicators around the world.
- Gift of Insights—Providing grants for targeted research that results in case studies, white papers or other publications supporting member needs and IABC thought leadership.
Here are just some of the ways the Foundation’s work through the Gift of Communication is making a difference:
“With help from the 2017 Gift of Communication micro grant, we were able to host four charities to an after-work event to focus on their top organizational issues, which varied from the need for more visibility to more effective internal communications tools. Participants were so pleased with the results that they have requested another session! Thanks to the IABC Foundation for helping us find a way to ‘give’ our communications expertise and knowledge to positively impact our community!”
– Sara Odle, IABC Barbados Chapter President
We are so grateful to International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for sharing their Gift of Communications event with us today and inviting some of our member agencies to work with their members to create effective communications strategies. Our colleagues, Renée Rosenfeld facilitated the event for UWNCA and Sheila Somashekhajr participated as Latin American Youth Center’s Board Rep. Thank you!

We hope you’ll consider contributing and furthering the IABC Foundation’s cause! With your help, the Foundation can continue its work like this through the Gift of Communication and expand into helping others through the Gift of Excellence, by supporting certification of professionals around the world.
Reasons to Give
As we know, all things are not equal. There are real financial hurdles for some communication professionals living in low income or developing countries. The IABC Foundation, with your generous help, will provide funding for CMP or SCMP certification through the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) to IABC members living in these areas.
Case for Support
In the 2016 edition of the World Development Indicators authored by the World Bank, there are 84 countries categorized as either Low Income or Low-Middle Income. IABC has over 400 members living in 17 of these areas. While there may be need in other locations, the economic disparity between a Low/Low-Middle Income country makes attaining certification in these areas especially difficult. The IABC Foundation, like you, wants to empower all communicators globally to use communication as a force for good in business and society ensuring the highest standards of communication practice.
Why Certification Matters
Ethics. Consistency. Context. Analysis. Strategy. GCCC certification provides an internationally recognized standard of communication excellence based on a global understanding of key principles and job competencies worldwide. Being certified gives professionals the ability to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise, and provide evidence of their outstanding abilities. It is a pathway not only to elevating an individual’s career, but also to ensuring the continual advancement and positive impact of the communication profession. By giving to the IABC Foundation you can help a communication professional who would otherwise be unable to access certification.
