The business need or opportunity

Raytheon Company, with 2013 sales of $24 billion and 63,000 employees worldwide, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security and civil markets throughout the world. As one of four Raytheon businesses, Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) designs, builds and supports air and missile defense systems worldwide. Headquartered in Tewksbury, Mass., IDS has 14,000 employees and 2013 revenue of $6.5B. IDS faces complex challenges as the defense industry migrates from a steady supply of sole-source U.S. government contracts to a complicated mix of highly-competitive international pursuits. For decades, customers paid top dollar for one-size-fits-all defense programs.
