Our Aim as an Association
The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) enables a global network of communicators working in diverse industries and disciplines to identify, share, and apply the world’s best communication practices. IABC is recognized as the professional association of choice for communicators who aspire to excel in their chosen fields.
Professional communication at the heart of every organization.
Use the power of communication to deepen understanding, inspire action and transform our worlds.
IABC pledges to:
- Represent the global profession.
- Foster a diverse community.
- Focus on insights and results.
- Honor our Code of Ethics.
- We will achieve this by being open, contemporary and professional.
IABC is the only global association connecting me with the people and insights I need to drive business results.
Directed by Leadership
The International Executive Board (IEB) is the governing body of IABC. It is accountable to the members and has supervision, control and direction of the affairs of the association. It actively pursues the association’s purpose, determines its policy within the limits of the law, Bylaws, and Articles of Incorporation. It upholds the IABC Code of Ethics for Professional Communicators and supervises disbursement of the association’s funds. The Executive Board develops the strategic plan and direction for the association under the guidance of the association Bylaws approved by the IABC membership.
The Heart of our Service
At the heart of service to IABC members is a network of committees, with participation by members on a voluntary basis. IABC committees provide strategic direction for the work of the association, including six standing committees established in association’s Bylaws.
Planning for the Future: Stronger Together #IABC2025
More than fifty years ago, people from a variety of disciplines, who saw the power of communication, came together, combining two organizations to
form what we now call the business communication profession. The visionary leaders who created a platform from which every communication professional could have the opportunity to understand what it means to be a strategic communicator, would surely be proud of how our volunteer leaders and members have led over the years.
As we look toward 2025, IABC is at a critical point. Our global community has never been moreconnected, yet our traditional business model and revenue streams are under immense pressure. In addition to the impact of the pandemic on every professional association, IABC is confronting global trends that have accelerated in recent years and continue to impact on our industry. Just as the world is changing, IABC must also evolve. We are currently focusing on our Stronger Together #IABC2025 Strategic Plan through 2025 as our response to the changes impacting our world and our profession.
