IABC is moving to an annual dues model to better serve our members. With an annual dues model, chapter and region leaders can focus on member recruitment during the two focus times of the year verse twelve months a year. This will open up more time to focus on relationship building and creating member value, which will support increasing retention rates. This model will also simplify recruitment efforts by having all members on the same renewal cycle. 

Once all members have transitioned to Annual Dues, members will then be able to enroll in auto-renewal, making it easier for them to renew annually. If they choose to opt out of auto-renewal, we will automatically open an invoice for them that they can pay with one click. They will no longer have to login and walk through the renewal process unless they want to make updates to their membership. 

October 2023 will begin the transition to annual dues. During the transition, members will pay a pro-rated amount to move the organization to an annual model. All memberships will expire on 31 December 2024.

October 2023: Renewing members will pay a prorated amount for the remainder of 2023 + 2024 annual dues. New members will only pay 2024 annual dues and 2023 benefits will be included. All memberships will expire on 31 December 2024.

November 2023: Renewing members will pay a prorated amount for the remainder of 2023 + 2024 annual dues. New members will only pay 2024 annual dues and 2023 benefits will be included. All memberships will expire on 31 December 2024.

December 2023: Renewing members will pay a prorated amount for the remainder of 2023 + 2024 annual dues. New members will only pay 2024 annual dues and December will be complimentary. All memberships will expire on 31 December 2024.

2024 will be a transition year. During the transition year, members will pay a pro-rated amount to move the organization to an annual model. From January – October, members will pay a pro-rated amount based on their current membership expiration date. All memberships will expire on 31 December 2024. 
From June – September, members will have the option to purchase an extended membership option that will give them an expiration date of 31 December 2025. This option is available, so members do not have to renew again at the end of the year. This rate is calculated based on the member’s current expiration date + 2025 annual dues. 
From October – December, IABC will be focused on renewing members through 31 December 2025. All members joining after 1 October 2024 will receive membership through 2025. 

Beginning in January 2025, all IABC members will purchase an annual membership from 1 January – 31 December. 
Members can join and renew at the annual rate between 1 October – 31 January. For members wanting to join in the middle of the year, we will have an extended membership available to purchase from June – September.

Other societies that have annual memberships with chapters and regions, allow individuals who are planning to join the association to attend their chapter and/or region events at the member rate. This allows for the individual to start to build the relationship with the association and provides a positive experience from the start.

With this transition, IABC will focus the bulk of its membership promotions in October-December each year, focusing on member benefits and value. We will no longer hold a traditional Member Month, but will continue to share value proposition messaging and collateral with Chapter and Region leaders when coordinated campaigns approach!

This October, we will promote member benefits rather than providing any membership discount. As we move through this transition, we want to ensure our membership understands the change. IABC will continue to provide incentives during 2024. If an individual purchases an 18-month membership, they will also pay for 18-months of chapter and region dues. All rebates will be distributed quarterly as they are paid to IABC International. 

Yes, all IABC memberships have a 30 day grace period. Example: Your membership expires on 31 October 2023, you will have access to benefits until 30 November 2023. Then, you will be required to renew your membership to continue accessing membership. 

Login to your IABC profile and your expiration date will be shown on the right hand side of the screen on the Overview tab under Memberships. This will updated automatically upon renewal. 

The system will automatically prorate your dues based on your expiration date. Your membership rate will be calculated based on a monthly rate. If you have questions about your pro-rated amount, please email member_relations@iabc.com. 

This change will not affect your current international membership. You will still be required to renew your chapter dues, which will now expire on 31 December each year.

For 2024, so long that the group’s expiration date is more than 3 months out, you may add a member at a prorated rate to match the group’s expiration date. 2025 and beyond, the member can be added throughout the year up until 1 October. If the member is added before 1 October, the dues will be prorated. If the member is added after 1 October, the entire group will be up for renewal for the following year and the member can be added to the new roster.

In short, no. We are actively seeking ways to streamline communications with IABC members and lighten the load on our leaders. With that in mind, HQ will lead the charge in communicating about this transition!
