Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I join IABC?
If you are looking for an individual membership, join online here.
For corporate memberships, contact our member relations team at member_relations@iabc.com.
-
How do I transfer a membership?
A membership can be transferred to another person within a company. However, the following criteria must be met:
- The original member must have at least three months left on the membership and the membership must be a professional membership, not a 500 Club, student, retired, or other type of lifetime membership.
- The original member is no longer with the company.
- The employer sends a request to transfer the membership on company letterhead, which may mailed to IABC headquarters. Please include current information of the new member, including name, title, phone and fax number, email and mailing address, and the name and member ID of the original member.

How do I reset my online login information?
In April 2019, IABC migrated to a new system and all members were notified about updating their login information. You can now log-in with your email address as your username (not your member ID). If you need to reset your password, you may do so here: https://my.iabc.com/CPBase__forgot_password. Please contact our member relations team at member_relations@iabc.com or +1 312-321-6868 if you need assistance.
-
Why am I unable to log in to my member record?
You can log in to the member dashboard using the email address you used when you joined IABC. Passwords are case sensitive, so be sure your use of uppercase and lowercase match your IABC record. If you forgot your password, you can reset it here. If you have any problems logging in, please email member relations at member_relations@iabc.com for assistance.
-
How much are IABC membership dues?
Dues vary based on your chapter and country. See our dues chart for details. If you live in an area not represented on the dues chart, please email member_relations@iabc.com with your location and request a dues quote.
-
How long is a membership?
Professional, student, student transition, retiree, and most corporate package IABC membership terms are 12 months, starting from the date the membership is processed. Multi-year corporate package memberships are available as well.
-
What other currencies does IABC accept? What are the exchange rates?
IABC accepts payment in U.S. dollars, Canadian dollars, Australian dollars and euros. Call our member relations team for current exchange rates at 800.776.4222 (in the U.S. or Canada) or +1 312-321-6868.
-
I looked for someone specific in the member directory but don’t see them, even though I know they are a member.
You can access our member directory here.
Not all members choose to be listed in the member directory, so you might not be able to find everyone. We value our member’s privacy preferences.
-
My address/phone number/email address has changed. How can I update my record?
The easiest way is to visit the member dashboard. Fill in the appropriate fields with the new information, and be sure to click “submit” at the bottom of the second screen. You cannot change your name (e.g. if you get married) or chapter online. Please call or email us at member_relations@iabc.com to change your name or chapter.
-
How can I change my chapter?
So, you’ve changed locations and need to change your chapter? No problem! Send us a message at member_relations@iabc.com or give us a call at +1 312-321-6868 and we’ll help you make that update right away.
-
I tried to join/renew online and couldn’t. What’s wrong?
We’re really sorry that happened! If you received an error message, please forward it in its entirety by email to member relations at member_relations@iabc.com, explaining the challenge you have encountered. We will get back to you to help find resolution or help complete your transaction by phone to help take care of it as quickly as possible.
-
I’d like my dues refunded.
IABC bylaws prohibit refunding dues for any reason when a membership terminates.
-
Do I have to be part of a chapter?
If you live within 80 kilometers or 50 miles of an IABC chapter, IABC bylaws require you to be a member of that chapter. If you live more than 80 kilometers or 50 miles from a chapter, you are welcome to join as a member-at-large. When you join IABC, our system will let you know which chapters are within distance of your location so you can choose the best fit for your membership needs.
And, since it’s required, we’ll take this opportunity to say what an amazing opportunity you have with your chapter to build your local network, access in-person learning, mentoring, and more. Your chapter is an amazing part of your membership!
-
I’d like to be a member of two chapters. Can I do this?
Unfortunately, the membership tracking system at IABC headquarters can only assign a member to one chapter. If you’re interested in joining a second chapter, please contact us at member_relations@iabc.com.
-
What are corporate packages?
Good question. Corporate packages are the most affordable and comprehensive way to get year-round professional development based on the Global Standard of the communication profession, so you can build the skills and professional practice of your entire team. Check out all of the details here.
-
Our company is interested in a corporate package. What’s the next step?
Email our customer service team at corporate_membership@iabc.com with:
- The first and last names of all people who would be part of the package, as well as the city, state/province, and country in which they are located.
- The member IDs of any current IABC members who are part of the group.
Headquarters personnel will develop a price quote for the group for the first year and deliver it back to you. Once full payment and enrollment forms are submitted, existing members will be converted to corporate package members, and new members will be processed as corporate package members.
-
After we become corporate members, how do we take advantage of our discounts?
If you are paying by check for knowledge products or the World Conference, deduct the appropriate amount and include a note identifying yourself as a corporate package member. If you are paying by credit card, conduct your purchase as usual, but be sure to mention that you are a corporate package member.
-
Is there anything else I should know about corporate packages?
Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
- Members of a package can be in different chapters across the world. Members of a corporate package are not required to be in the same chapter.
- By committing to two or three years of membership, corporate members can get greater discounts on dues and other products.
